My Qualifications and Experience
I have a diploma in Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapy, having studied at the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy, and I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy. To become a hypnobirthing practitioner, I went on to do specialist training in hypnosis for pregnancy and childbirth (hypnobirthing).
What makes me different
If you’ve Googled hypnobirthing, you’ll probably have seen that there are a lot of hypnobirthing practitioners and hypnobirthing classes out there. They can no doubt teach you the techniques of hypnobirthing, but many hypnobirthing practitioners aren’t fully qualified hypnotherapists. That means that they’re limited in knowing how to use hypnosis to best effect and how to tailor it individually to you. Hypnosis always works best when it’s individual to you, rather than generalised.
Instead of offering standard hypnobirthing, I’ve chosen to provide a bespoke hypnobirthing programme that’s truly individual to you. The other important benefit you get from me is my expertise in hypnotherapy to overcome anxiety. Getting rid of any fears and anxieties before you go in to labour is vital to give yourself the best chance that your labour will be as straightforward as possible. I particularly specialise in helping mums-to-be who are anxious about labour and birth. Hypnobirthing practitioners, who are not qualified hypnotherapists, lack the training to help you deal with your fears and anxieties effectively.
First and foremost, I’m a mum! I have two teenage daughters and I remember all too well the highs and lows of being pregnant, the worries and uncertainties, the tests and scans. I’ve written a little about my birth experiences in the Transforming Birth Guides. (You can download your free copy of the guide by clicking on the relevant link for you at the top of the page.) My children were born before I trained as a hypnotherapist and knew how much hypnobirthing can transform labour and birth into a positive experience. I’m now on a mission to help as many women as possible have that positive experience through hypnobirthing.
To give my professional background: before training as a hypnotherapist, I was working as a business and personal coach, specialising in the management of people and career change. I was prompted to train as a hypnotherapist while working with one particular client, for whom lack of confidence was a fundamental issue. I realised that coaching would certainly help her on one level, but from my knowledge of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), I felt that hypnotherapy would be quicker and more effective for her. I originally wanted to have hypnosis as an additional resource to help my coaching clients, but loved it so much and realised how powerful it is, that I switched from working as a coach to being a fully accredited hypnotherapist.
Prior to working as a coach, I had a career in Human Resources, originally working for British Telecom in a variety of personnel roles and as a management trainer. After a year’s voluntary work in Africa, I became a business adviser, helping organisations to implement best practice in people management and development. I also worked as an assessor for the Investors in People national quality standard.
